15 Years of Service: The Heart and Vision Behind H-Town Dream Center

We’re thrilled to share that our founders, Shawn and Shannon Nelson, were recently featured on 89.3 KSBJ’s Community Beat! Hosted by Kim Kossie McKee, Community Beat highlights the people, organizations, and stories that make a difference in Greater Houston.

In this inspiring interview, Shawn and Shannon opened up about their 14-year journey of faith and service to our community. Guided by God’s hand, they felt a deep calling to serve the most vulnerable in Houston—at-risk youth, families facing hardship, and individuals impacted by life’s toughest challenges. Their passion led to the founding of the H-Town Dream Center, a place where hope, healing, and freedom are at the heart of everything we do.

They shared stories of God’s work within the Dream Center and discussed our 3 Phase Plan for growth:

• Phase 1: Community Center – A hub for resources, mentorship, and support for youth and families.
• Phase 2: Multi-Purpose Sports Field and Courts – Currently under construction, providing safe recreational spaces for at-risk youth.
• Phase 3: Fishing Pond Pier – Soon to begin, creating a peaceful spot for families to gather and enjoy the outdoors.

Shawn and Shannon reflected on how faith, prayer, and community support have driven this mission. Through the Dream Center, they have witnessed countless lives transformed, thanks to God’s guidance and the support of volunteers, donors, and community members.
